Jerez de la Frontera has been traditionally absent from the itineraries of all but the most thorough of travelers, though in recent years this error is slowly being corrected.  Often overlooked in favor of its more important cousins Cadiz and Seville, visitors are finding in Jerez a city steeped in history, with a wine culture dating back to the Phoenicians, and a strong tradition of horse riding and -breeding. It is the nurturing ground for the Flamenco art-form which is coming into its own on the world music stage.

The Riad (the word in Arabic for a house with a garden) offers the visitor the chance to stay in one of the most traditional neighborhoods of Jerez, to experience a sampling of Andalusian life, a stone's throw away from its major monuments, bars and sherry wine cellars. Those discriminating enthusiasts in search of the last "real" Flamenco will find in the vicinity of the Riad no less than three dance academies, a guitar academy and three peñas (see glossary) which feature artists from the gypsy clans which are reference points in Flamenco history.

Both independent and conventional travelers alike will enjoy Jerez's climate, its proximity to beaches and mountains, and most of all, the friendliness of the Jerezanos themselves, a proud and vibrant people in a city rich in tradition and recalling for many the Spain of old.  We look forward to receiving you and help take advantage of Jerez's many subtle treasures.

Travellers who are thinking of going from Spain to Morocco may consider Jerez as a convenient starting point. Jerez boasts the only airport in the province of Cadiz, with cheap flights from the UK with Ryanair. The completion of the Jerez-Los Barrios motorway (A-381), cutting a swath through the beautiful Parque de los Alcornocales, makes getting to Algeciras or Tarifa in order to take the ferry to Tangier or Ceuta (Spanish Morocco) cheaper, quicker and more convenient than from Malaga.
