Updated info July 2003: This plaza is an excellent place to eat out.
There are 4 bars in the plaza. They are all good. We had a bad experience in the
Acebuche bar recently after waiting almost 2 hours to get served, so if you go there insist on knowing how long it will take to serve the food before ordering.

Advice: This problem is not uncommon on outside terraces. If you are really hungry and it looks like the waiter is sweating and doing everything by himself ask how long it will take to be served. Here is the Spanish. ¿cuanto tiempo va a tardar?

The other restaurants in the plaza are good also.
My personal favourite is Carne Rondeña in the Aurora bar next to the church.

La acebuche is situated in San Miguel Bajo, in the Albaicín next to the former mosque built by the Ziri dynasty (Dar-la-Horra, see photo below) which is now the convent of Santa Isabel la Real. The bar has a sunny terrace .

María, the owners is from Brazil so there is always an exotic touch to her cuisine. She also cooks typical Granadino food and her dish from the nearby Alpujarras mountains is wonderful.
If you want more elaborate dishes there are mussels au gratin, chicken in orange sauce, pickled partridge in herbal marinade.
The favourite tapa is: Chicken wings. If you click here and print out a little map and bring it with you Maria will invite you to a "chupito" shot of something with your meal.

If you would like to buy a small bottle of the very finest extra virgin olive oil "Duque de Baena", ask Maria and she will let you taste some first.
